Ceske-Krumlov
This beautiful medieval town stretches the long of the Vltava River on 180 kilometres the South of Prague and 50 kilometres from Ceske Budejovice, the metropolis of South Bohemia. The valleys and the forests surrounding this town, known as the "pearl of the renaissance", are among the criteria that still draw more visitors to the South of Bohemia. The foundation of Ceske Krumlov goes back to the 13 century and since then it was the headquarters of various Bohemian bourgeoisie families. Its castle, of which the first marks go back to 1253, is the second more important castle after the one of Prague. By the early 16th century, important re-constructions had been carried out, hence, new buildings had been added to the former castle and the whole complex had been reinforced. During the mid 16th century, very important re-constructions and decorations in renaissance style had been carried out. By the start of the 18th century, a beautiful Baroque theatre and a vast garden had been added to this beautiful complex. The Ceske Krumlov castle had always been well looked after by its different owners, among whom we can mention the Rosenbergs, the Schwarsenbergs, and the Eggenbergs. All of these powerful families helped the proliferation of the town and the castle during their different government periods in the Southern Bohemia.
In addition to its beautiful castle, Cesky Krumlov includes more than 300 historical sites and by 1992, the whole town was listed among the natural and the cultural UNESCO patrimony.
