Hluboka
The castle of Hluboka is located along the banks of Vltava River, just a few kilometers far from Ceske Budejovice, the metropolis of South Bohemia.
The castle was founded at the beginning of the second half of the 13th century under the command of the king Winceslas I. By the death of the king Premysl Otakar II, in 1276, the powerful southern family, Vitkovec, occupied the castle. In 1290, the king Winceslas II arrested and executed the head of the Vitkovecs and got back the castle. The castle was reconstructed at several times. In 1571, the Italian B. Maggi transformed the castle from the gothic to the renaissance style. Between 1707 and 1728, P.I Bayer and A. Martinelli rebuilt the castle of Hluboka on great baroque. F. Beer and F. Deworetzky who made of Hluboka the nice appearance of nowadays carried out the last great reconstruction between 1840 and 1871. Their work makes of Hluboka a very nice castle of Gothic Tudor of Winsdor royal castle style of England. The inside is rich of gothic, renaissance and other styles. Famous artists as Silvestri and Pelegrini made decoration works. The castle of contains a superb collection of historical tapestry, furniture, pictures and weapons. We can also find a very nice library with more than 12000 books.
