Holasovice
Halosovice is a village situated 14 kilometers far from Ceske-Budejovice. The first prints of its existence go back to the year 1263. In 1290, the king Vinceslas II offered the village to the monastery of Vyse Brod who owned it until 1848. During the Husist revolution, in the beginning of the 15th century, Jan Hus and his fighters occupied the village that became their headquarters and revolutionary center.
In 1520 plague laid waste the village and only two persons survived, so the monastery brought people from Austria and Germany to replace the workforce lost during the plague era. In 1938, the Germans occupied the village and after the Second World War the Tcheque government evicted a number of German families. The baroque and rustic architecture of this village and its tragic history attracted the interest of the UNESCO leaders to rank Holasovice amongst the world cultural and human heritage.
