Karlovy-Vary
This world-famous spa town is located in a picturesque valley and surrounded with large forests, about 130 kilometres West of Prague. After the discovery of its thermal sources, in the mid of 14th century, the king Charles IV had decided to build this town, which became his preferred leisure area. In the 15th century, Karlovy-Vary had reached the status of a European spa town. The great majority of the kings of that time and the European bourgeois used to visit this place for leisure or for treatment. By the start of the 17th century a giant fire had devastated the whole town, which was then built of wood, however it was swiftly rebuilt, and this time with stone. We can find many beautiful baroque buildings, as "MARIE MAGDALENA" church, which dates of the 18th century and built by K. I. Dienzenhofer. Many other architects had carried out works in this beautiful town, among which we can mention the two Viennese Fellner and Hellmer who built the beautiful theatre and the famous great hotel PUB, which is the place of the stays of great personalities from the 19th century.
An international film festival is organised every year in Karlovy Vary. The festival is becoming famous year by year and many of the HollyWood cinema stars take part to this festival.
Karlovy-Vary includes twelve (12) thermal sources who's the temperature varies between 42c and 72c. It is classified among the best spa towns in all over the world.
